Week 2 Innovative Leadership
Triple E
The Triple E Framework was designed by Liz Kolb with the goal to, "address the desire for K-12 educators to bridge research on education technologies and teaching practice in the classroom."(Kolb, 2015). Research is very clear that effective technology integration starts with the teacher and the strategies being used and not fancy tools. Therefore, this framework aims for teachers to easily look at the tools they are using and how they support learning goals. The three Es of the Triple E Framework are engage, enhance, and extend. Engage involves students spending time on task, how motivating it is, and if students co-use the technology. Enhancement involves the technology aiding or scaffolding the learning in a way traditional methods cannot. It also allows them to demonstrate their learning in a creative way. Lastly is extending, where the technology needs to extend the learning outside the classroom. These are the three Es which teachers should use to evaluate their technology they are using in the classroom.
The stakeholders I would need to reach out to first (in my needs assessment) are the fellow teachers and instructional coach in the building. This allows me to make sure they value the work around technology and hear their thoughts about how we currently use technology. Then I will talk to administration (both the building principal and director of secondary education). These two will have a lot of information for be about where we currently are and the goals for the building moving forward. Lastly, the technology department will be good people to help me understand all the tools we currently have and how they are being used. This model will work in my community because teachers are currently using technology and students have access to devices. This allows us to look at how beneficial the technology is and how it supports learning goals.
The technology integration plan will be aligned with our current professional learning on gradual release and assessment. We have currently been focusing on our instruction and how to incorporate independent learning, collaborative, guided, and direction learning in every lesson, every day. Effectively integrating technology aligns with this work because it is another tool to help us differentiate how we are doing these learnings in our classrooms. Right now, I use Forms to see who I need to pull for guided instruction. Some teachers use interactive sticky notes for collaborative learning. Better using technology will help us meet our goals related to gradual release.
During professional learning, having teachers share about technology in their classroom is a great way to share current practices. Last week during PD, two teachers shared how they are using MagicSchool AI in their classroom. The week before I shared about how to use ClipChamp. This allows teachers to see new ideas and ask questions in a low stake environment. To assess the effectiveness of our technology integration plan, we will focus on key outcomes such as: Student Engagement and Learning – Are students more engaged and demonstrating deeper understanding? Teacher Confidence and Implementation – Do teachers feel more prepared and supported in using technology? Equity and Access – Are all students, regardless of background, able to benefit from digital tools? Considering the digital divide, we will also ensure that technology use does not create disparities by offering device access, technical support, and training for both students and families.

Claire, I really like how you emphasized that effective tech integration starts with instructional goals, not the tools themselves. You did a great job of connecting to Tripe E. Your plan to align tech integration with your school’s existing work on gradual release is such a smart move.
ReplyDeleteIntegrating technology with a focus on gradual release and assessment can indeed make a significant difference in the classroom. By balancing independent, collaborative, guided, and direct instruction, we can cater to diverse learning needs and keep students engaged.
ReplyDeleteUsing tools like forms for quick assessments is a game-changer. It not only helps in identifying students who need extra support but also allows for more personalized and effective teaching.
Hi Claire, your focus on aligning technology integration with gradual release and assessment practices is really smart! It helps that your school is already creating a space for teachers to share tech strategies during PD - that makes the whole thing feel more practical and supportive! I love that you are also considering equity & access so no student is left behind!
ReplyDeleteHey Claire! You did a fantastic job outlining the Triple E Framework and making clear connections to your school’s instructional goals. I appreciate your focus on teacher collaboration and professional learning, especially how you highlight real examples of technology use in PD sessions. The emphasis on equity and access is also crucial, ensuring all students benefit from digital tools. Great work!
